There are many ways to share your time and gifts with God and our parish community during Mass. Whether you enjoy proclaiming the Word, serving at the altar, singing, welcoming others, or helping distribute Holy Communion, there is a ministry where you can make a meaningful difference.
Our altar servers, lectors, musicians, ministers of hospitality, acolytes, and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion each have an important role in our celebration of the Mass. Together, we help create a prayerful, joyful, and welcoming experience for everyone who comes through our doors.

Ministers of Hospitality
Be the first impression of Christ Love. Ministers of Hospitality welcome parishioners and visitors and help create an atmosphere of warmth, order, and Christian fellowship. They assist with seating, collections, processions, and other practical needs during parish liturgies. Their ministry expresses the welcoming presence of Christ and the parish community. Do you have a gift for making people feel at ease? Put it to work for God.

Acolyte Ministry
Looking for a meaningful way to get involved in the church. We invite you to become an acolyte. This vital ministry is open to men at least 21 years of age, fully initiated, and living an exemplary Christian way of life, with no impediments to sacramental reception, (e.g., if married, one must be in a valid union recognized by the Church). The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston is awaiting guidance from the USCCB regarding the admittance of women to this ministry. Contact Us

Bereavement Ministry
No one should have to walk through the valley of grief alone. But the gentle hand that holds someone up when their world falls apart. The Bereavement Ministry accompanies parishioners and families experiencing the death of a loved one. Members offer compassionate Christian support and assist families as they prepare for Catholic funeral and memorial celebrations. The ministry expresses the Church's hope in the Resurrection while providing a caring presence during times of grief.

Altar Server
Are you looking for a meaningful way for your child to participate in the Mass? Our Altar Server Ministry is welcoming new members! Altar Servers assist the priest and deacon during the celebration of Mass and other liturgical services. The ministry helps foster reverence, responsibility, and a deeper understanding of Catholic worship. Children, youth, and adults who meet parish requirements are encouraged to serve. Adult and Youth Lector
Do you have a clear voice and a desire to serve? We need adults and youth to bring scripture to life. It’s a wonderful way to share your gift, build speaking confidence and lead our congregation to worship. Lectors proclaim the Sacred Scriptures during Mass and other liturgical celebrations. Through prayer, preparation, and clear proclamation, they help the assembly encounter God through His Word. Separate opportunities are available for adult and youth lectors.
Youth – Starting at 8 years and have made first communion.
Adult – Registered members of Our Mother of Mercy Parish 18 and up.

Music Ministry
If you are a registered member of OMOM Parish and are interested in Raising the Roof in Praise, join our music ministry. Remember, God gave you a voice and musical talent. Bring it back to the one who gave it to you. The Music Ministry enriches parish worship by leading the assembly in sung prayer and sacred music. Through various choirs and musical groups, it supports the liturgical seasons and helps foster active participation at Mass. Opportunities include traditional, youth, teen, men's, and Gospel music.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
God invites you to His table every week. Now he invites you to help Him host it. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist with the reverent distribution of Holy Communion during Mass. When authorized, they may also bring Holy Communion to parishioners who are sick or homebound. Members are called to serve with deep Eucharistic faith, dignity, and prayerfulness.

Youth Ministry
Youth Ministry provides young parishioners with opportunities to grow spiritually, socially, and personally within the Catholic community. Through prayer, formation, service, fellowship, and parish activities, young people are encouraged to develop their gifts and relationship with Christ. The ministry seeks to form young disciples who actively participate in the life and mission of the Church.
Please note: Participation in Youth Ministry is required for young parishioners who wish to participate in other parish ministries involving children and youth.

Young Adults / Maturing Adults — AYAS Fellowship
AYAS Fellowship provides a community for young and maturing adults to deepen their Catholic faith while building meaningful relationships within the parish. The ministry promotes spiritual growth, fellowship, service, leadership, and participation in parish life. It offers a welcoming environment for adults seeking to remain connected to Christ and one another.

CCE — Continuing Christian Education
CCE provides Catholic religious education and faith formation for the children and young people of the parish. Catechists work in partnership with parents to teach Catholic doctrine, Scripture, prayer, morality, and sacramental life. The program seeks to help young Catholics develop a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church.

OCIA — Order of Christian Initiation of Adults
OCIA accompanies adults who are interested in becoming Catholic or completing their Sacraments of Initiation. Through prayer, Scripture, catechesis, and participation in parish life, candidates and catechumens are introduced more deeply to the Catholic faith. The ministry also provides opportunities for Catholics seeking a deeper understanding of their faith.

Boys Rites of Passage
The Boys Rites of Passage Ministry supports the spiritual, personal, and social development of boys and young men. Through mentoring, faith formation, cultural awareness, discipline, and leadership development, participants are encouraged to grow into responsible Christian men. The ministry brings together trusted adults who accompany young men during important stages of their development.

Media & Technology Team
The Media & Technology Team supports the parish's communication and digital ministry needs. The team assists with audiovisual systems, technology, digital communications, livestreaming, and other media used for worship and parish activities. Its work helps the parish communicate effectively and extend its ministry beyond the church building.

Security Team
The Security Team helps maintain a safe and welcoming environment for parishioners, visitors, clergy, staff, and volunteers. Members assist with safety awareness, emergency preparedness, and security during Masses and parish activities. Their service helps the community worship and gather with greater confidence and peace of mind.
